ADVOCATE- This includes working with the department of correction officials to institute immediate solitary reform for vulnerable populations (juveniles, pregnant women and those with mental health diagnoses) while working to end solitary for everyone in Louisiana. MONITOR legislation and policies and ORGANIZE members and your community to act.
The LSSC welcomes all community and faith-based representatives to join the coalition to help bring about the end of solitary confinement in Louisiana’s jails and prisons.
The Louisiana Stop Solitary Coalition consists of three sub-committees:
The Jail Sub-committee focuses upon jail related issues having to do with solitary confinement.
The Faith-based Subcommittee addresses solitary confinement from a moral perspective.
The DOC Sub-committee focuses upon collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections to reduce, and eventually eliminate solitary confinement in their facilities.
